First of all, you will get what you pay for. And if you compare PSR F 51 with the price at which it is available you will get a decent entry level keyboard which is definitely not a toy.
It is designed for fun and offers mediocre feature to get started.
The Yamaha PSR F51 redefines performance and value in starter keyboard instrument.
This review is not going to be too long as PSR F 51 does not offer too much. So lets have a look at some of the feature this entry level keyboard offers to us.
Features Of Yamaha PSR F 51
Keys and User Interface PSR F51
The keys are not full sized. they are regular sized 61 keys and are not weighted nor touch responsive but gets the job done.
What I like the most about the keyboard is the user interface.
It is very easy to navigate because of the color coded control panel. The LED panel at front displays your current setting and makes it easy to understand that what is going behind the scene.
To play the keyboard You just need to select the voice and rhythm and its done, good for first time learners.
Voices and Sounds
Its high quality 61 note full size keyboard offers easy access to a massive selection of sounds.
The 120 realistic instrument voices include pianos, synthesizers, and even complete drum kits.
These are huge number of voices covering musical genre from all around the globe. But note the piano tones are not sampled from grand pianos or acoustic pianos because you can't expect this level of quality at this price point.
But still Yamaha's AMW Stereo Sampling Technology enhances the quality of the tone and does not make it sound like you are playing a toy. It also has 32 polyphony
Practice and Learning Options
Yamaha PSR F 51 does not disappoints you when it comes to learning and practice features.
Like the built in metronomes helps you understand the sense of rhythm. Which is one of the most essential thing a budding pianist need to understand.
The duo feature is also a wonderful add on when it comes to learning. The duo feature divides the keyboard in two equal halves providing a middle C on both ends.
This comes useful when you are playing on side with your teacher so you can match the hand movement with your tutor. This makes learning piano quite easy and fun.
Sounds and Other Features
The sound of F 51 portable keyboard is quite impressive for sure. The twin speaker system produces loud sound without compromising on the quality.
The headphone connectivity option is also a great add on as it allows you to practice silently on your own.
Dual Voices Feature - The dual voice feature of PSR F 51 combines 2 instrumental voices throughout the keyboard simultaneously. Means you can combine instrument voices such as piano and strings and when you press any key you will hear both of the instrument sound at once.
Dual voices is not out of the world feature. This feature is commonly known as layering and is available on most of the keyboards, but not on keyboards under this price range for sure.
Backing style songs - 114 backing style help you create almost any kind of music you like from pop to boogie, to DJ star dance.
My Experience With Yamaha PSR F 51
PSR F 51 is a decent entry level keyboard for beginner in the price of toy. It is good for student or teacher who are setting up their classes and looking something with viable price tag and with good warranty.
PSR F 51 does not offers too many features nor it feels like an acoustic piano as I said above you will get what you pay for. And for the price at which it is available you are getting more than what you are paying for.
It is highly portable, offers 100+ voices, 25+ songs, 114 styles, Easy to use interface, and is surprisingly lightweight too. So if you are looking for something for fun or just starting out. Then Yamaha PST F 51 might be a good option to consider.
